Dr. Young King Liu

Acupuncturist , PhD , LAc

(707) 520-4914
I studied acupuncture with Dr. Nguyen Van Ngni in Marseilles, France in 1973 while I was a Research Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Tulane University of Medicine, New Orleans, LA. In 1978, I moved to the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA, where I specialized in Joint pain in general and back pain in particular. In 1993, I moved to California as President of the University of Northern California (UNC). I continued my clinical practice in the UNC Community Clinic in addition to my research and teaching in Biomedical Engineering. I have completed many research papers and hold patents in therapeutic biomedical engineering devices.
Pain management in orthopedics is my specialty. I use primarily electroacupuncture and secondarily Chinese herbal medicine and Western supplements. As a research professor in biomedical engineering and orthopedic surgery in 3 research Universities, my clinical evaluation and treatment are integrative. In short, I use everything I know to rehabilitate you.
In my evaluation, I perform both an Eastern and Western medical history and physical examination. In Chinese medicine, there are 4 pathogens (causes for diseases): 1) Environmental [heat cold, dampness, dryness, etc.]; 2)Psychogenic [emotional & psychosomatic factors]; 3) Alimentary[what you eat & drink]and 4) Mechanical[posture at work & play, exercise and relaxation].
