David Li practiced in China at the Taishan City Hospital of TCM for 5 years in orthopedic surgery and pain management. He worked in Bellevue Hospital Center in New York City as certified surgical technologist for four years. David Li also taught acupuncture in the American International Acupuncture Institute.

She has been on the faculty of Columbia University for over 16 years and former Helen F. Pettit Endowed Professor. She is currently the Independence Foundation Professor at New York University. She was appointed and served on the Advisory Board for the Institute of Medicine's (IOM) report on The Use of CAM by the American Public.
